Hollywood Regency :: Inspired by Elizabeth Taylor’s Bolero Jacket

Inspiration :: So this is what I imagine Elizabeth Taylor’s home inspiration board would have been based on this bolero jacket look. Ooh, she was a Goddess! I don’t have the budget for this look myself, but if you do, by all means, shop the opulent look via my Chairish affiliate links below. I’d truly love to photograph or even just visit a home in this style one day, it just feels so Hollywood glam!

While the indulgences of this style may currently be beyond the reach of my budget, I’m super drawn to the eclectic nature and vibrant colors of this style. The velvet, with its plush grandeur, becomes a focal point here, or is it that gorgeous vintage lighter that is the main focus piece? I just LOVE it. (me currently searching Etsy and Ebay for similar ones) If I find one I’ll add it below.

(I’m Mel, an artist and collector among other things. I’d consider my style for most things in life ‘Eclectic.’ I am not an interior designer, this is purely for fun and honestly for my own manifestation practice. Let’s get to it Universe! #manifestationbaby)

More on this Hollywood glam style…

In the bewitching world of Hollywood Regency, there exists an era of glamour and sophistication personified by the legendary Elizabeth Taylor. This opulent style guide unveils a glimpse into this glam world, with the heart of our inspiration being the iconic photograph of Elizabeth Taylor draped in a resplendent red bolero jacket.

Hollywood Regency is a design style that emerged in the early to mid-20th century, particularly during the golden age of Hollywood in the 1930s and 40s. It draws inspiration from the glamorous and luxurious aesthetics associated with the film industry and the lifestyles of Hollywood celebrities from that era. Hollywood Regency style is characterized by a blend of opulence, elegance, and a touch of theatricality.

The style includes:

  1. Glamorous Materials: The use of luxurious and high-quality materials such as velvet, satin, lacquer, mirrored surfaces, and metallic finishes to create a sense of opulence.

  2. Bold Colors: Vibrant and bold color palettes, often featuring rich jewel tones like emerald green, sapphire blue, and ruby red, combined with gold and silver accents.

  3. Geometric Patterns: The incorporation of geometric patterns, including chevron, Greek key, and lattice designs, to add visual interest and a touch of sophistication.

  4. Mirrored Furniture: Mirrors and mirrored furniture pieces to enhance the sense of glamour and create a feeling of spaciousness.

  5. Dramatic Lighting: Statement lighting fixtures, such as crystal chandeliers or bold pendant lights, to add drama and a touch of Hollywood allure.

  6. Bold Art and Sculptures: Large-scale art pieces and sculptures that make a statement and contribute to the overall theatrical atmosphere.

  7. Vintage and Antique Elements: Incorporation of vintage or antique furniture and accessories to evoke a sense of timeless elegance.

  8. Eclectic Mix: A willingness to mix and match different styles and eras, creating an eclectic yet cohesive look.

Overall, Hollywood Regency style is about creating a glamorous and visually striking environment that captures the spirit of Old Hollywood and the extravagant lifestyles of the stars of that era. It continues to be a popular and influential design style, with modern interpretations often blending classic Hollywood Regency elements with contemporary touches.
